An Elevated Day-Long Journey for Connoisseurs and Collectors: Experience the Emperor Napoleon’s 1855 Crus classification
This day-long experience elevates your private group’s understanding of the legendary wines of the Médoc well above what most visitors to Bordeaux ever encounter. Designed specifically for serious connoisseurs and collectors, it is an immersive journey tailored to expand your palate and your cellar.
Travel north from Bordeaux along the famed Route des Châteaux to visit some of the finest wineries in the world: the Grands Crus Classés du Médoc of 1855. Along the way, you will discover how distinct terroir, meticulous winemaking skill, and patient aging before release combine to create the true greatness — and justifiable expense — of these wines.
Your group will be transported throughout the day by our private driver. This allows your WSET Level 3 Awarded Guide (With Distinction) to provide his full, undivided attention to you during travel. As you pass legendary estates, your guide will share personal insights, insider stories, and recommendations for exclusive Grands Crus, Crus Bourgeois, and artisan wineries to note for your future collection.
Behind the Gates of the Classified Growths: Your itinerary includes private, curated visits to carefully selected estates comprising solely classified growth Grands Crus châteaux. Exploring the private vineyards, vat rooms and historic cellars, you will learn how these elite vignerons share common bonds in history, while maintaining uniquely different philosophies to achieve the product in the glass. Visits span a variety of village appellations ranging from Saint-Julien, Margaux, Pauillac, and Saint-Estèphe, occasionally venturing into exceptional Haut-Médoc properties just outside the village borders.
Expect Elevated Tasting Experiences: You will participate in blind and/or vertical tastings across several historic vintages of the same Grand Cru wine. We may also explore select Vin de France bottlings chosen by these estates to allow for creative flexibility in grape variety and style. We’ll also encounter second and third labels, discovering hidden gems and cellar defenders suitable for earlier consumption while your grands vins mature.
During these tastings, we’ll measure what we taste against the systematic criteria employed to evaluate world-class wine: Balance, Length, Intensity, Complexity, and Varietal Typicity. You will see firsthand how the Grands Crus measure up consistently against these to justify their elevated place in the market.
As the experience progresses, you’ll gain new favorites, better understanding how vintage selection is paramount. You’ll also discern flavors and aromas in a manner that expands and surpasses your prior understanding.
This is a day-long experience designed especially for serious connoisseurs and collectors. Expect by our final toast to have your horizons expanded, and to have identified new bottles to fill your cellar.
