About Us
Jeff Hullinger founded Bordeaux Américain out of two long-held passions: great wine and the city of Bordeaux. His introduction to serious wine enjoyment came years ago featuring one especially memorable tasting — a vertical* of Saint-Estèphe’s Château Calon-Ségur from vintages 1928 to 1970 — which sparked a lifelong interest in understanding what makes great wines truly great.
Since then, Jeff has explored wine regions in both the New and Old World, from California, New York, Oregon and Washington to Italy, Spain, Germany, and across France. And he has undertaken education through the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Levels 2 and 3 to expand his understanding of grape growing and the making of wines — viticulture and oenology. But Bordeaux has always stood apart.
Over the past decade, frequent trips to France deepened his connection with the wines of this area, leading Jeff at last to relocate to Bordeaux. But it was not just the wines — the food, the culture, and the hospitality of the Bordelais people drew him like a magnet to this fabulous area.
Today, Jeff shares his experience with fellow Americans and English-speaking visitors—offering a perspective that is knowledgeable, entertaining, thoughtful and always approachable.
